Interpretation, and subsequent appreciation, of a surreal work of art requires the partial abandonment of the normal processes of civilised reasoning, an innate attraction to the abnormal,  the willing acceptance that one is being confronted by the inexplicable workings of the abstract mind, and considerable patience
